George Strait eloped with his high school love Norma Voss. The pair married on December 4, 1971, in Mexico. That same year, George enlisted in the US Army as an infantryman. When stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii as a portion of the 25th Infantry Division, George started performing with an Army-sponsored band, "Rambling Country." When still in Hawaii, George and Norma welcomed their first child, Jenifer, on October 6, 1972. George served in the US Army from 1971 to 1975 and attained the rank of Corporal.
